New Limelife Sunscreen for Face: Zero Shade Lightweight SPF

Zero Shade is the new and improved LimeLife sunscreen. It is available in both a lightweight face lotion, and an easy-to-use stick. Here's a look at these two products and how they differ from other products.

The History of LimeLife Sunscreen

LimeLife had the Perfect Sunscreen line up until 2023. At that time, they decided to stop selling the Perfect Sunscreen for face, body, and Sunny Bunny sunscreen for children. LimeLife discontinued these products because they knew that they could make something even better. And I'm so glad that they made that decision. Mineral sunscreen is tough. It's so much healthier for you than chemical sunscreen. However, it can leave you with a white face that certainly doesn't work well when applying makeup.

Mineral Sunscreen vs Chemical Sunscreen

Mineral sunscreen is a term that is used a lot. But do you know what it means? I think it can get a little confusing sometimes. So let's take a look at the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen and which one is better for you.

I think the easiest way to think of mineral sunscreen is that it provides a physical barrier on your skin. This barrier is what protects your skin from the harmful UVA and UVB rays. The most common ingredients in mineral sunscreens are zinc oxide and titanium oxide. These ingredients deflect the UV rays and essentially make them bounce off your skin.

When I think of mineral sunscreens, I think of lifeguards. When I was little, there was always a lifeguard on the beach who had white sunscreen on his nose. That was the go-to sunscreen back in the day for people who were in the sun all day. And I think that's why for some people, mineral sunscreens are not appealing. Even though they have come a long way, most still leave a white residue on your face.

The appeal of chemical sunscreens is that they don't leave behind a white residue. The most common ingredients used in chemical sunscreens are oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, and octinoxate. These ingredients protect your skin by absorbing the UV rays. So you can see why they get the name chemical sunscreens. The sunscreens rely on the molecules in these ingredients to convert the UV rays into non-damaging heat.

Now I know that I have really over-simplified the chemical sunscreen process, but hopefully you get the idea. Mineral sunscreens are a more natural form of sunscreen, both for humans and the planet. To know if a sunscreen is a mineral or chemical sunscreen, check the active ingredients listed on the back. If it lists zinc oxide or titanium oxide, then it is a mineral sunscreen.

The New LimeLife Sunscreen

The new and improved LimeLife sunscreen is called Zero Shade. It is a mineral/physical sunscreen packed with 15% zinc oxide to protect your skin from the sun. It is a broad-spectrum SPF30 sunscreen that protects your skin from UVA and UVB rays. Zero Shade face lotion is lightweight and in addition to the zinc oxide, it is loaded with nourishing all-natural ingredients that help moisturize without being greasy.

For people who like the convenience of a stick sunscreen, Zero Shade is also available in an SPF50 sunscreen stick. I love a stick because it's great to carry on the go, and it's also an easier way to get my kids to wear sunscreen. They are at the age where they can put it on themselves, but let's be real. They aren't going to spend a lot of time on it, so the stick is perfect because it's quick, easy, and convenient.

Zero Shade Sunscreen

I will be the first to admit that I did not like LimfeLife's discontinued Perfect Sunscreen. I didn't like how it went on, the white cast it left on my skin, and I thought it had a funny smell. I am vigilant about wearing sunscreen every day of the year, rain or shine. So I gave Perfect Sunscreen a try when it first came out, and I figured that it would be my go-to sunscreen. Sadly, it was not a LimeLife product that I purchased again.

So, when the new Zero Shade sunscreen was released in 2024, I was cautiously optimistic. What I love about LimeLife is that they have integrity. If they know something isn't the best, they aren't going to sell it. That's how I feel as a Beauty Guide. If it's not something that I personally use and believe in, then I won't recommend it.

I am so excited to report that the new Zero Shade LimeLife sunscreen lotion is well worth the wait. It is so lightweight and easy to apply. I can't even feel it on my face, and it looks great with or without makeup. It is not greasy and leaves no white residue. It's just an invisible layer underneath my makeup. I can't even tell that I'm wearing sunscreen because it's so light and natural feeling. But after long days of summer fun, I can tell you that the LimeLife sunscreen held up beautifully and protected my skin as promised.

On top of being great for my skin, I am also happy that Zero Shade LimeLife sunscreen is safe for the planet. With its non-nano, reef-safe zinc oxide, I can feel good about wearing the sunscreen when I'm at the beach. And I do feel good wearing this sunscreen. I've tried a lot of sunscreens, and LimeLife nailed it with Zero Shade. Never have I ever worn a sunscreen that is so lightweight and easy to apply. Thank you LimeLife for trashing the old, and giving us a new and improved LimeLife sunscreen that is worthy of a gold medal!
